Q.  How much do hearing aids cost?

A.  The range at our office is $395.00 to $3,650.00 each.  The $395.00 is the most basic aid available and the $3,650.00 is the most advanced digital.  According to a recent article in the Hearing Journal the average price of a hearing aid nation wide is $1,500.00 to $2,000.00 each.  Factors such as degree of loss, size of aid and technology will effect the cost.

Q.  How do I know if I need a hearing aid?

A.  The best way is to have a hearing evaluation.  I recommend patients be seen by a certified, professionally trained audiologist rather than a dispenser.

Q.  Is there a trial period?

A.  All our fittings come with a 30 trial period.

A. Audiology is an autonomous profession.  Audiologist evaluate and identify disorders of hearing, balance, and neural systems.  They select, fit, and dispense  aids only after any medical intervention is deemed necessary.  Audiologist hold a minimum of a Masters Degree many, like Dr. Whritenour hold Doctorate degrees.  Up to 9 years of college education is required to become an Audiologist
.

Q.  What is a Fitter/Dispenser, Hearing Instrument Specialists and Audioprosthologist?

A.  They are not Doctors or Audiologists, they are all fitter/dispensers.  Only a high school diploma or equivalent is required to become a fitter /dispenser. According to ACA it takes 13 weekends to become a audioprosthologist.  You may wonder why a dispenser would wish to be called something so similar to an Audiologist.  They are not required to have a college degree.  They are not allowed to fit children under 18 without a physicians approval.  They are not trained to make a medical diagnosis of disease or injury.

Q.  What about the Free Hearing Tests I see advertised?

A.  You have to consider the value of a free test given by someone with no medical degree, who is not a doctor or an Audiologist.  Holding a file and wearing a white lab coat does not make you a doctor. I think we all would be upset if we paid for an exam that was give by someone with no medical degree.
